We are pleased to announce that SF Consulting is now an official dox42 partner, building on many years of practical cooperation around document automation for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management and Dynamics AX.

This partnership is a natural continuation of what we have already been doing together across customer implementations, technical topics, and support cases. SF Consulting has extensive practical experience with dox42, supporting both new implementations and existing reporting landscapes.

The official partnership provides a stronger framework for this existing cooperation and brings together SF Consulting’s deep Dynamics expertise with the specialized document automation capabilities of dox42.

The challenge of document automation in D365 F&O

Customer-facing ERP documents rarely remain unchanged for long.

Sales invoices, order confirmations, quotations, purchase documents, packing slips and other business documents regularly need adjustments to layouts, calculations, legal texts, additional fields, language-specific content or customer-specific requirements.

In Dynamics 365 F&O, documents are commonly implemented using technologies such as SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Electronic Reporting (ER). Both provide powerful capabilities, but depending on the scenario, even relatively small changes may require specialized knowledge of the reporting technology, the underlying D365 F&O data model and the relevant business logic.

At the same time, document requirements can become increasingly complex as an organization grows. Different legal entities, countries, languages, brands and customers may require their own document variants, while the information needed for a single document may come from several parts of D365 F&O or even from different business systems.

Managing this complexity exclusively through traditional report development can make document landscapes increasingly difficult to maintain and evolve. Organizations therefore need an approach that provides more flexibility in document design, supports reusable templates and multiple data sources, and reduces the dependency on specialized development for every new business requirement.

This is where dox42 provides an alternative approach, combining flexible document design with access to D365 F&O, Dynamics AX and other enterprise data.

What is dox42?

dox42 is a document automation and data integration platform designed to generate business documents using data from Microsoft Dynamics 365, Dynamics AX and a wide range of other enterprise systems.

Templates are created directly in Microsoft Office applications. This allows companies to use familiar tools for designing documents while connecting those templates to structured business data.

In a Dynamics 365 F&O environment, dox42 can be integrated with different data sources and reporting approaches depending on the customer scenario. Existing D365 F&O data, business logic, SSRS-based reporting structures, OData entities and Electronic Reporting scenarios can all form part of a broader document generation architecture.

This flexibility becomes especially useful when a document requires information from several systems. Data from D365 F&O can, for example, be combined with information from databases, web services or other business applications within the same document generation process.

The result is a flexible approach in which companies can separate document design from parts of the underlying ERP development while still maintaining access to complex business data and logic.

For simpler scenarios, users familiar with the relevant business process and standard Microsoft Office functionality can already work with templates without having to learn a completely separate report design environment.

For more advanced scenarios, dox42 can be combined with D365 F&O development, integrations and custom business logic to support complex document requirements.

Our experience with dox42

SF Consulting has been working with dox42 in Microsoft Dynamics environments for many years. Our experience ranges from document design and customer-specific reporting requirements to more advanced document automation scenarios.

What makes this collaboration particularly natural is the combination of deep Dynamics 365 F&O expertise with specialized dox42 knowledge. Our consultants, developers and solution architects understand the business processes, data model and application logic behind D365 F&O, while dox42 provides a flexible layer for document generation and automation.

D365 F&O expertise as the foundation for dox42 solutions

Effective document automation in D365 F&O often requires more than designing a template. The quality of the result depends on understanding where the relevant data comes from, how the underlying business process works and how standard or customer-specific application logic should be reflected in the document.

This is where SF Consulting’s core Dynamics expertise fits naturally with dox42. Our teams can work across both sides of the solution, connecting D365 F&O business requirements and data with flexible document design and automation.

Our practical experience includes everything from creating or adapting standard business documents to more advanced scenarios involving automated distribution, archiving, electronic signatures and electronic invoice formats such as ZUGFeRD.

Experience with Dynamics AX

Our dox42 experience also extends to Dynamics AX and Axapta environments.

SF Consulting’s AX support team has worked extensively with existing dox42 implementations and supports customers that continue to operate business-critical AX solutions. This gives us experience across different generations of the Microsoft Dynamics platform, from established AX environments to modern Dynamics 365 F&O implementations.

Experience with on-premises dox42 Server administration

Our experience is not limited to the functional and application side of dox42.

SF Consulting specialists also work with on-premises dox42 Server environments, including their administration, upgrades and migration between servers. This broader technical understanding helps us support dox42 solutions as part of the customer’s overall Dynamics landscape rather than treating document generation as an isolated component.

What the SF Consulting and dox42 partnership means for customers

The partnership brings together SF Consulting’s deep expertise in Dynamics 365 F&O and Dynamics AX with dox42’s specialized document automation technology and product knowledge. For customers, this creates a stronger foundation for implementing, supporting and continuously improving document automation solutions within their Microsoft Dynamics landscape.

  • Closer coordination on customer solutions
The partnership creates a stronger framework for coordinating future implementations, ongoing support and further development of existing dox42 solutions.

From established cooperation to a stronger partnership

For SF Consulting, becoming an official dox42 partner is less about starting something new and more about taking an established working relationship to the next level.

Years of practical work around Dynamics 365 F&O and Dynamics AX have already shown how naturally deep ERP expertise and flexible document automation complement each other. The official partnership now gives both teams a stronger foundation for sharing knowledge, addressing complex customer requirements and developing document automation solutions together.

We look forward to building on this foundation and expanding what customers can achieve with dox42 across their Microsoft Dynamics environments.
