Import arrival documents using the Electronic Reporting (ER) in D365FO
Client Challenge
An international manufacturing company handles customer product returns across warehouse locations in multiple countries. Return inventory data must be validated and uploaded into Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations (D365FO) as arrival journals to initiate the return process. Given that each warehouse and product category adheres to country-specific return policies and data formats, the company needed a flexible and configurable solution for importing arrival documents.
Results
  • • The time to register arrivals was reduced from several hours to just a few minutes
  • • Human errors have been eliminated
  • • Integration for two of the client's warehouses took no more than 40 hours
Why Us
We have extensive experience using Electronic Reporting for various scenarios. In addition to developing reporting and integrations with ER, we also provide regular training sessions to help your team develop and manage the solutions on their own efficiently.
Objective
A flexible and configurable arrival journal import framework needs to be developed in D365FO. The solution should be easily adaptable to new warehouses, product types, and localization requirements—without the need for complex customizations or system downtime.
Our Approach
Document Storage: incoming data is saved in XML format and uploaded to SharePoint for centralized storage.
Data Import: we use the Electronic Reporting (GER) framework to automate data import without coding — configuring periodic batch jobs and mapping between the XML structure and D365FO tables.
Employee Notifications: Electronic Reporting also enables automatic alerts to notify responsible staff when a new arrival document is received and requires review and processing.
